Out & About #458 | Partial June Visuals

6/14/2018

Eighteen days are left. I repeat: 18 DAYS UNTIL EYES ON YOU IN TORONTO!!!
June has been whizzing by in the blink of an eye and it's honestly quite scary how I'll be encountering the loves of my life once again, but this time much closer to home.

Majority of these few weeks have been consisted of errand-running, rushing to working, and brief hangouts - none exempt from the participation of food, of course.

1) Unagi Poke Soba from Tsujiri

Savoury items have finally landed at the Square One outpost and it's incredible joyful to be able to purchase said products while merely missioning my neverending to-do list.

Amongst the three meat-containing bowls, I opted for the Unagi Poke Soba - naturally the priciest of all four varities due to its included source of protein. The sides of baby spinach, avocado chunks, and sliced raw onions were elements I could have prepared with minimal effort at home, but the matcha soba and unagi sauce were the stars that prominently determined its cost. Unlike the green tea soba obtained in packs from T&T, Tsujiri's version was springy, chewy, and satisfying, albeit a tad deficient in bittersweet matcha flavour. Strips of marinated unagi had been laid atop this light green bed of noodles, with a side of the most wondrous unagi dressing-soba soy sauce hybrid in accompaniment. The cherry tomatoes were another fresh, juicy touch.

The price tag is high, but, like all of Tsujiri's offerings, the consistent quality is present.

2) Last-minute dinner plans at JOEY Sherway, whose offerings were, admittedly, less impressive than last time.

3) The infamous Earl Grey Flute from Bake Code was honestly quite stiff and not the joyous piece of cream-filled bun I had anticipated from the numerous positive reviews floating around the Internet. On the other hand, I'm not particularly fond of earl grey either.

4) CoCo's Mississauga location has been agitating my nerves as of late. Mentioned previously was a situation where I was irked by an establishment's decision to disregard walk-in customers - and completely disregard face-to-face interactions - for the sake of punching in SkipTheDishes orders and proceeded to treat those present with utter disrespect.
At least show some concern for the VIP that's invested in over 150 cups of loyalty-filled drinks.

7) Revisiting One Zo and Mr. Chu for greater degrees of gustatory satisfaction

Pineapple Date Berry was obtained yet again. The Caramel Oolong Latte proved ridiculously delicious with the discernible presence of burnt sugar. In spite of this, the beverage maintained its requested level of sweetness without being overpowering; the base of the milk tea wasn't too milky either, allowing the aromatic properties of Oolong tea to shine through.

Mr. Chu's Korean-style churros had left a unmistakably strong impression since the first visit, so I suggested a second trial for a version without ice cream.

Matcha glaze and Oreo crumbs proved a delectable combination, further confirming that the churros were as delicious solo as when included as a parfait component. Personally, this pairing was more to my preference than Condensed Milk + Crushed Peanuts, but both were fantastic nonetheless.

8) Congee Queen

The congee establishment's only location outside of east GTA has become a family favourite for many locals, including myself.

Portions are indisputably generous, and the dishes are incredibly satisfying.
