Out & About #69 | Unfavourable Weather Conditions + Food Randoms

1/30/2015

This week's weather has been a bit bipolar. Well, I shouldn't say that. Central GTA received relatively less snow than its western counterpart. While the pavement of the driveway could still be easily seen, majority of campus was covered in white fluffiness, which later became brown fluffiness due to dirty boots and tires.

The blizzard in West GTA lasted for most of Monday, with some on/off periods. It didn't actually cease snowing until sometime in the late evening.
The morning commute, as you may have guessed, was a rather unpleasant experience. I had managed to make the last standing spot on the bus, meaning that I had needed to stand for approximately 35 minutes until we would arrive. Originally, it wouldn't have been bad at all. However, almost each seated passenger had an extra duffel bag with them, and most of them poked into the aisle. With no space to properly position myself and nothing to hold onto, the frequent brakes initiated by the driver in compliance with the stop-go traffic conditions jolted me back and forth quite a substantial amount each time.
Upon finally making it to school, I was welcomed by none other than more whiteout-like weather.

Out & About #68 | January Visuals 3.0

More visuals! Because who doesn't love getting the chance to view random snippets of my life right?

But in all honesty, I've gotten much too lazy to write recently.
Factors that could have potentially induced this condition include my current level of health, which is very low given that I'm desperately trying to recover from a flu-like, sinus infection (complete with a stuffy and runny nose and migraine attacks) and frustrating Excel systems assignments that simply won't solve themselves as I would wish them to.

But as I am the type that would never allow a properly good (photo) opportunity to escape before my eyes, regardless of my condition, here is a collection of images captured over the past week:

Out & About #67 | Israel Day on Campus + Green Grotto Mississauga

1/20/2015

In celebration of Israel Day, the atrium of the student centre had been set up with various booths yesterday; each booth represented a different major city in Israel, and a representative would enlighten the students walking by the tables on the highlights of each city.

Welcome to January Visuals 2.0! (aka visuals from the second week back to school)

1) Homemade Red Bean & Bran Popsicles
Unfortunately, the mixture separated during the freezing process, causing the beans to fall to the very bottom. Perhaps I should use a mix of koshi-an and smooth red bean paste instead next time?

2) A cauldron-like (?) structure could be observed in its intermediate stages of construction at the central court of Square One. The photos were taken from below the escalator (i) as well as from above (ii).

Out & About #65 | Orange 茶 88 ??

So it seems that Tea Shop 168 has changed their name....to a rather odd-sounding new one.
I'm puzzled as to why they even bothered though - the staff is the same, and the drinks are still served using plastic cups with 'Tea Shop 168' labels printed on them. Even their name of Google Maps remains the same.

I guess the only noticeable difference was the reformatting of the menu. Now that I think about it, I did observe that a number of food items were newly-added to the list.

Out & About #64 | January Visuals

1/10/2015

Seeing as this was just the first week of school, majority of my courses had only covered introductory lectures (plus a small amount of content). The lack of tutorials/labs also meant that I had more free time to catch up on any dramas I failed to complete over the break and run errands.

As always, 'Visuals' posts consist of photos of the items that I have consumed over the past week or so, with the exception of a few campus randoms.

My first day back ended quite late, and since one of my extracurricular clubs had decided on an impromptu meetup that evening, I decided to grab a quick dessert before catching the bus home.
Shown below is "The Delicious Little Donut Thingy" from one of our on-campus restaurants. Not quite as delicious as its name claimed it to be, the dessert was essentially four small, floury mounds that had been warmed up, topped with Kit Kat bits, and drizzled in chocolate sauce and caramel sauce. A small scoop of vanilla ice cream had been placed on top, and four fusilli-sized squirts of whipped cream had been haphazardly squirted in line with the corners of the dish.
Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as sweet as it looked. It was also just enough to prevent me from reaching for a granola bar while on my way home.

Ever since I discovered the wonderful world of thick toast, I've made it my personal mission to recreate some of my favourite flavours at home. As seen in my last post, Green Tea thick -er regular - toast was a success. Makeshift pizza-flavoured toast (aka bruschetta w/ melted mozzarella) also proved to be a simple, tasty lunch item on a snowy stay-at-home day.

On my second day back, I decided to meet up with one of the friends I hadn't managed to see over the break. First stop was Bubble Tease, which I had suggested since I had yet to try out the 'Name Your Price Tuesdays' deal.

Out & About #63 | Errands + Go For Tea

1/2/2015

In order to get in more practice before my driving exit test next month, I volunteered to drive my mom around while she ran her errands. This involved getting up early, which is something I find little pleasure in doing, but will make the back-to-school transition significantly easier.

After morning errands were finished, I suggested trying out a new place for lunch: Go For Tea.
