GO transit actually has a train that takes you directly to the gates of the CNE! Like, how awesome is that?! All you need to do is find your way to the closest GO Bus/Train terminal - which, of course, is easier said than done given that not everyone will live in an area that's convenient for busing.
Don't you just love how convenient public transportation is? (And, mind you, I say this without a speck of sarcasm.) GO transit actually has a train that takes you directly to the gates of the CNE! Like, how awesome is that?! All you need to do is find your way to the closest GO Bus/Train terminal - which, of course, is easier said than done given that not everyone will live in an area that's convenient for busing. We arrived at the CNE around 11 AM, but even then, the exhibition was already flooding with young families and small groups of friends.
Another day in Markham means another day of testing out new dining options.
This time around, I suggested looking around Commerce Gate for a change.
Lunch took place at this modern-looking restaurant that specialized in Japanese donburi (rice bowls).
The inside was rather well-lit, and though it was evident that the tables had been worn down slightly, the abundance of colour made it less obvious. Donburi also had a variety of J-Pop songs playing throughout the meal, and also happened to be airing Pycho-Pass on two TV screens located above the area where the chefs prepared the food at the far back wall of the restaurant.
After conducting a quick Yelp search on some of the nearby restaurants that were open on Monday nights, Solstice was chosen.
A seriously hectic Friday, I spent the morning of the 15th bussing down to Pacific Mall to run an errand and meet up with a friend before heading off to another friend's birthday party. After meeting up with my awesome dongsaeng friend, running my errand (aka printing some customized t-shirts), we sat down for lunch at the food court.
I originally intended for today to be completely dedicated to editing my (much overdue) vacation photos and doing chores, however, once my Frappuccino craving hit, I knew there was no way I was going to be able to continue without satisfying it first. After proceeding to get ready to face the outside world and its glorious UV rays, I checked the bus schedule to see when the next bus would be arriving. As the schedule had informed me that there was still another 6 minutes, I took my time gathering my things before heading out the door. To my disappointment though, the bus had arrived a few minutes early and whizzed by the bus stop just as I was about to cross the street. Just my luck. In the end, I decided to just enjoy the weather and walk the full distance instead. < Shown above: Today's lunch, consisting of rice, steamed veggies, a broken poached egg, and furikake, and a Java Chip Frappuccino to satisfy my unearthly sugared-up caffeine desires. >
After conducting a quick search on the restaurants within close proximity of my physio place (also read as: reading numerous reviews on), it was decided that we would try out New City Restaurant for lunch.
Many yelp users had had mixed feelings about the atmosphere and food, but two common points present in their reviews were that the servers were always friendly and that meals were considerably budget-friendly.
For the first time in about a year, I met up with one of my closest friends from high school. Summer is nice in that majority of people's schedules are a little less packed than throughout the school year. I guess this isn't quite the case when you're working long shifts for a summer job, but thankfully, not all of my friends have entered the workforce yet. In the morning, I went to claim my free birthday drink from Starbucks before heading off to meet up. After numerous photos of the renowned American coffee house's latest concoction popping up on my social network feeds, it became difficult to not succumb to curiosity. Behold the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino (and some shots of my day jewellery that had turned out better than expected) After all the hype that had been built up via social media, I had high expectations for this drink. But it was just plain disappointing.
Yes, it did taste like a mocha. And yes, it did taste like coconut (especially with the toasted coconut flakes sprinkled on top. However, it wasn't a particularly good taste. Rather, it was absurd. (But at least I hadn't been required to pay the full price for it.) |
