Out & About #72 | More Food Randoms

2/28/2015

These past few weeks have been sufficiently hectic for me; the never-ceasing amounts of assignments, projects, and midterms have definitely contributed to my current state of insomnia, though other factors such as a high-stress level-inducing part-time in customer service have played a significant role as well.

Reading Week flew by in just a blink of an eye, and I was once again confronted with massive amounts of academic responsibilities that I had not been prepared to face just yet. While I am not completely certain if this is a result of disorganization, it would seem as if our profs have only managed to teach one third of our course material in half of a semester. Consequently, they are compensating for the "lack" of workload in the form of numerous, time-consuming assignments, much to the distaste of their students.
That being said, I haven't been whipping out my camera(s) as often as I had originally anticipated, thus making a for a small photo-backlog this time around. Nonetheless, let's see the food pics!

I had developed a massive shawarma craving one day after running errands, instead of returning to Shahi Grill, I decided to try out someplace new: Pita & Grill.

Adopting a cafeteria-style layout, the restaurant was much bigger than it appeared from the outside and approximated between five or six times the size of Shahi Grill.

I had first discovered this location from reading an insauga article some few days earlier, and users had praised this place highly in the comments section. To my disappointment though, it wasn't quite as great as I had hoped.

Out & About #71 | Food Randoms

First off, Happy Valentine's Day!

While some may taken part in events that had been elaborately planned beforehand with their significant other, I spent my day recovering from a late-night work shift and completing the numerous household chores that had yet to be completed throughout the week.

Despite having to put forth my sweat and tears until the wee hours of the morning after a tiring day of school, I can honestly say that it was a fun experience. Hectic situations and chaotic circumstances are not things that I would want to encounter on a regular basis, especially if it involves academic priorities. However, it's always interesting to angle the tables in such a way that you assume a role opposite of the receiving side.

But enough of that! Let's move on to this week's food randoms!

As mentioned in my last post, I had been tempted to try to recreate the Tea Mousse I had experienced during my last Chatime visit.

After doing a swift yet thorough search of copycat Chatime drink recipes via Pinterest, one of my all-time favourite inspiration-inducing social media platforms, I landed on a page explaining how to whip up a similar concoction, but with ingredients that leaned on the side of absurdity. (Himalayan pink salt? I think I'll just stick with my trusty sea salt instead, thank you very much.)
The results came out quite nicely, bearing an almost-identical visual appearance to the legitimate version. (Except, of course, that I had ordered a Wintermelon Tea from the original vendor, but had brewed an Oolong this time instead.)
Another treat that I made over the past weekend was a Coconut Milk Sago Pudding. A rather impromptu creation, this dessert involved a minimal amount of planning, but a rather tasty result.

Out & About #70 | FrostCon 3.0 + Chatime

2/6/2015

Those that follow my Facebook page will know that I attended FrostCon 3.0 last weekend. While editing for the private shoots still underway, a decent number of hall shots captured at the event can be viewed HERE!

In the meantime, here are some low-res photos off my phone camera.

I had been debating whether to sport a casual Monokuma to the event, or a casual (wand-less) Usami. I thought the decision had been made when I proceeded to do nail art theme revolving around a glitter gothic/black theme. However, an extremely casual Usami prevailed as the outfit was much more comfortable and did not involve donning contact lenses for the entire day.
Sadly, this is the only photo of this set of nails, as they soon chipped afterwards due to my impatience.

After finally making our way down to the FrostCon registration desk and dropping off a few things at the coat check, we made our way into the poorly-lit (read: making for torturous photograph-taking conditions) Dealer's Room.

A plush "panko" key chain spotted at a booth near the entrance, along with some cheeky-looking red octopi (octopi!? octopuses??), while an adorably fuzzy Aurora World Yeti plushie was observed to be selling for much more that I was willing to pay.

We also chanced upon some amazing fanart by a student artist from Alberta; her work included League of Legends champions fanart, popular anime characters, and even some K-Pop! (Check out her tumblr for more!).
