[Out & About #1] Girls' Day Out

8/29/2013

So the Wandering in Wonderland series about my daily life in Vancouver has ended. Well, the Summer Edition at least. It'll surely be revived the next time I visit.
Out & About will be about the various random and seemingly unimportant things I do in between living the stressful life of a uni student, watching dramas, eating, and sleeping.

Now let's start "Out & About #1"!

Yesterday, I hung out with one of my close friends. While going through cheap forms of entertainment the day before, I suggested doing a photoshoot at Lakeshore, going trampoline jumping, and then catching the movie that she suggested watching. But since I needed a ride (car-less for the time being *sob*), she would have to drive us around. And that, as she said, was a bit too much driving and placed her outside of her automobile usage comfort zone.
Fair enough. So we just went to her house for lunch and a long discussion about perfumes and cosplay before going to watch the highly-anticipated (or maybe not-so-highly, as reviews had been "less than stellar"?) Mortal Instruments City of Bones movie.

[wandering in wonderland] vancouver day 14

8/26/2013

Basically spending most of Day 14, my last "full" day in Vancouver, at home while wishing I could try cheesecake-flavoured egg waffles probably wasn't the most productive thing to do.

But hey, my second uncle and aunt were taking all of us (including my grandparents) to a huge sushi dinner that night so I didn't really mind it all that much.

The sushi place was in downtown Vancouver. Now I personally thought that this was just going to be some casual farewell dinner (for me), but my aunt turned up in a new shift dress just as I was walking through the door. My grandmother also appeared in a nice top that my mom had bought her recently. Coming from work, my uncle was also in proper business attire. Boy did I feel out of place in a standard long-sleeve and jeans. Then again, my grandfather wasn't dressed any fancier than he would have dressed normally, so I felt a bit better seeing that.

Clothing choices aside, we arrived at Kamei Royale around 5:45 PM. (Side note: I don't usually eat dinner until 7 or 8 PM but I wanted to sleep early that night. Going over the menu though, we didn't even end up eating until 7 anyway.)
I knew that it'd be a pretty class place, but I was immediately amazed to discover that the plastic food samples in the display window also happened to look rather classy.

[Wandering in wonderland] vancouver day 13

8/26/2013

After spending the morning stuffing the results of my 2-week vacation/shopping trip into a luggage borrowed from my grandmother, we went out for green tea-flavoured egg waffles and sticker photos at Aberdeen.
After a satisfying combo of crispiness and egginess, I wanted to try a Japanese-style pasta. So I did; I ordered a Chicken Carbonara Pasta at Strawberry Cones.

[Wandering in Wonderland] Vancouver Day 12

8/26/2013

Day 12 was fun:  I went over to my third aunt's house to make a sushi lunch before heading out to something like a Farmer's Market to pick out really sweet corn.
And because I was still reminiscing about Metrotown's green tea froyo in a cone, and because my aunt hadn't had a chance to visit Richmond Centre's food court post-renovation, Pinkberry it was!

[Wandering in Wonderland] vancouver days 10, 11

8/26/2013

Decided to take it easy on Days 10 and 11 (excessive amounts of walking during the past few days had caused my knee to start throbbing with pain again) and stayed home watching Nail Shop Paris.

Dinner on Day 10 was shirataki noodles with steamed celery and wasabi-tuna-parmesan salad.

[Wandering in Wonderland] vancouver Day 9

8/26/2013

In the morning, I went with my first uncle (my mom has three younger brothers - with the oldest brother being the first, etc.) and his family to go grocery shopping. And after grocery shopping, they were kind of enough to drive me all the way to Metrotown in Burnaby after lunch.
Lucky West Coast people! There are actually three Pinkberry locations in BC, one in Alberta, and none in Ontario =(

[Wandering in Wonderland] Vancouver Day 8

8/26/2013

So Day 8 was actually the day I went to Anime Revolution (OMG BEST THING EVERRRRR~); you can find my detailed blog post on it HERE and photos HERE. =)

But after AR, we had dinner at Koon Bo.

Now before I continue, I should clarify that I am one of those people that absolutely detest going out for dinner. And this is because I don't like what I refer to as "the commercial standard of food". This type of food is rendered overly flavourful to please the tastebuds of the general accustomed-to-dining-out public. Basically, since it doesn't quite agree with my sensitive digestive system that is used to processing the simple and comfortably bland flavours of home-cooking, I don't eat it.

But Koon Bo is a special case. It is one of the few restaurants that I really enjoy. No, I don't eat everything that my family orders, but unlike most restaurants, there's actual food that I can eat without feeling disgusted afterwards.
One of them being their most popular dish - Shredded Chicken.
And after dinner, my family took me to visit Starlight Casino.

[K-Drama] "Nail Shop Paris"

8/20/2013

Wow. I mean, WOW. That's honestly all I have to say about this one.

As an Asian drama (or "soap opera" as a lot of commoners call them) veteran, I've probably watched more dramas in my lifetime than eaten bowls of rice. And yes, that's saying a lot for growing up in a super Asian family.

"Nail Shop Paris" was one of those dramas that kind of suck you in starting from the very beginning, but not to the extent where you question whether watching it has become an addiction or not.

I originally looked into this drama a chance because of Cheondoong (aka my MBLAQ bias). And although I'm not overly fond of KARA (No offense but Gyuri's eyes are kinda...weird. She has something like a second eye fold going on waaaayyy above her crease ^   ^;), I'm super glad I gave this a watch!

[wandering in wonderland] VANCOUVER DAY 7

8/17/2013

(I've almost caught up!! Day 7 on Day 8 it is~)

After Day 6's leg-breaking and knee-pain-inducing stroll downtown, Day 7 was the ideal day to kick back and take it easy.

I settled for sleeping in, doing a bit of cooking, dancing to some NU'EST (JR is such an adorable little devil x3) and catching up on Asian dramas.

[wandering in wonderland] VANCOUVER DAY 6

8/17/2013

(Recap of Day 6 written on Day 8 is as follows~)

I had a dream that night. A dream about finally finding the perfect red jacket for my cosplay - a blazer with the right cutting and with buttons of the perfect rusted gold tone positioned at all the right places.

Then I woke up.

Ahhhh so it was a dream after all huh?

My aunt actually had the day off so on Day 6, she took my downtown to Pacific Centre on the Canada Line.
