[Christmas In Vancouver] Day 8 / Chinese Dinner

12/31/2013

Wow, I feel like I'm skipping a lot of days in these photo-posts. But to be honest, there really isn't much to post when you don't go out and take photos.

I guess I could screencap every fangirl squeal-worthy moment I encounter while watching dramas...but that content would probably be more suited to tumblr instead =P

Anyways, to celebrate my grandfather's birthday in advance, we had our huge family dinner at a Chinese restaurant in New Westminster called Kirin. We usually refer to it as Starlight Kirin, as it neighbours Starlight Casino. That and since there's also another Kirin location in Richmond.
It was basically a ton of Chinese food (*cough*something I'm not too fond of*cough*), followed by a Western spongecake with waaaayyyy too much icing and traditional Chinese birthday buns with lotus paste filling.

But can you tell that I used a different lens for these photos?? =D
Though taking photos of the dishes was made much easier, taking portrait shots swiftly and effectively was much too difficult without my multipurpose zoom lens (> ^ <).

That being said, here were sample shots I took while experimenting with my new macro lens.
...I guess weebly kind of kills the quality. ^ ^;
The white balance has already been corrected, and though it may seem as if there' s a lack of proper lighting, there really...isn't.

But yeah, there are definitely going to be more shots with this lens ^ ^ /

[Christmas in Vancouver] Day 5 / Boxing Day!

12/28/2013

As mentioned previously, I spent Christmas Day helping my grandparents pack, and thus, took no pictures. This was pretty much the case on the 28th as well, so there won't be a post for Day 6 either =P

And since I'm writing this post on the 28th (aka Day 7), I should also mention that since today happened to be my only "chill" day  - ie. a day where I'm NOT running around and can stay at home, stuff my face with cookies, and edit photos - I haven't taken any photos either.

Now let's move on to Boxing Day! =)

To be honest, I already spent quite a bit more than the amount I had originally planned to prior to Boxing Day. So my only goal for Boxing Day was to (hopefully) pick up a fragrance in order to replace my Etude House MiniME fragrance.

We arrived at the Richmond Centre location a little after 11 AM; while my mom browsed the Coach store, I headed into L'Occitane en Provence to see what I could find.

[Christmas in Vancouver] Day 3 / Christmas Eve Party

12/25/2013

My youngest cousin's birthday actually happens to fall on Christmas Eve. So during the afternoon, we celebrated at a location that offered virtual golf and access to a newly-renovated gym and pool, followed by an amazing ice cream cake.

While Metrotown is amazing for high-fashion finds and indulgent skincare products, Crystal Mall is the place to hunt down a Korean pop culture-related product while slurping a good cup of bubble tea.

[Christmas in Vancouver] Day 2 / Burnaby Shopping Guide (Part I)

12/24/2013

I woke up feeling rather refreshed today.

And although this is completely unrelated, I ingested a glorious breakfast of cornflakes topped with two heaving tablespoons of reduced fat Cool Whip. And why Cool Whip? Breakfast just isn't breakfast without milk, but since there was no milk in the fridge, Cool Whip was the next closest thing =P ...besides coffee creamer, that is. (Oh god, how DISGUSTING would that taste though?! *shudders*)

So today we went to Metrotown and Crystal Mall in Burnaby. I had a long list of things I wanted to check out and though they weren't quite attended to at the Metrotown stop (blame the mass amount of distractions and pretty Christmas decor), the Crystal Mall trip was decidedly satisfactory.
Following the purchase of a camouflage jacket with furry lapels (which has the potential to be featured in a later haul ;)), we had lunch at Sui Sha Ya.

[Christmas In Vancouver] Day 1 / The Great Flight (Part II)

12/23/2013

Continuing from Part I...

Shortly after landing, we went to Cactus Club Cafe for lunch with relatives. They had amazing lighting for food photography, which saddened me quite a bit as I hadn't brought my DSLR to the restaurant.

[Christmas In Vancouver] Day 1 / The Great Flight (Part I)

12/23/2013

For the first time in a long time, I slept really well.

I didn't toss and turn before finally being able to relax my mind.
Nor did I wake up during the middle of the night.
Nor was I tossed into a world of nightmares and plushie-stealing friends.

Maybe it's since I was extremely exhausted from sleeping less than 3 hours though. And why did I only sleep such a small amount? Well, that story is what I'm about to tell you.

As we were told that Southern Ontario would be hit by a mega snowstorm this (past) weekend - which it was, as many of my friends are still suffering from power outages, my parents thought it'd be a good idea to spend the night prior to our flight at a hotel close to the airport to avoid completely missing our flight due to being unable to get to the airport on time on the morning of.

So after finishing my exams on Friday and speed-packing everything I could possibly need for a period of 10 days (and inevitably forgetting some things while doing so), we checked into the hotel late Saturday afternoon.

[Out & About #9] Exams, Food, and Shopping!

12/15/2013

3/4 WOOT WOOT!!!

After an insomniatic Friday night, I finally wrote my enviro exam on Saturday morning. Fingers crossed that I'll pass since failing the final is equivalent to failing the course, regardless of what your previous marks were. And because failing also means that come next year, I'll have to spend ANOTHER GLORIOUS YEAR with that disorganized blob of a prof that is incapable of explaining concepts without dragging it out, belatedly posts everything on the course website, and fails to provide solutions to our practice exam..

YUP. Besides mechanics (which I actually do find to be an important course - it's just that physics was never my strong suit =P), this is the course that I enjoyed the most this year. I mean, WHAT IS THERE NOT TO ENJOY??? I was so thrilled at the idea of trekking across campus every time that I just decided to skip a full month of this class. (Sense my sarcasm yet?)

But anyways, my last exam isn't until next Friday so I decided to take a little break yesterday.

Oh! Side note: Before talking about yesterday, I want to reveal my cell phone charm of the month: Santeddy! ^ ^ /

Adventures in Hamilton (II)

12/5/2013

Wednesday was the last official day of school for us. But unlike those lucky high school kids, we're not free until exams are over.

I guess I'm quite lucky in that my first exam is taking place Saturday instead of tomorrow. Though at the same time, I can't say I'm too fond of writing two finals within a day of each other either =P

But alas, you did not click on this post to hear me rant about my exam schedule! Let's move on to Part II of exploring Hamilton and its surrounding areas (Read Part 1 HERE). ^ ^ /
