Out & About #64 | January Visuals

1/10/2015

Seeing as this was just the first week of school, majority of my courses had only covered introductory lectures (plus a small amount of content). The lack of tutorials/labs also meant that I had more free time to catch up on any dramas I failed to complete over the break and run errands.

As always, 'Visuals' posts consist of photos of the items that I have consumed over the past week or so, with the exception of a few campus randoms.

My first day back ended quite late, and since one of my extracurricular clubs had decided on an impromptu meetup that evening, I decided to grab a quick dessert before catching the bus home.
Shown below is "The Delicious Little Donut Thingy" from one of our on-campus restaurants. Not quite as delicious as its name claimed it to be, the dessert was essentially four small, floury mounds that had been warmed up, topped with Kit Kat bits, and drizzled in chocolate sauce and caramel sauce. A small scoop of vanilla ice cream had been placed on top, and four fusilli-sized squirts of whipped cream had been haphazardly squirted in line with the corners of the dish.
Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as sweet as it looked. It was also just enough to prevent me from reaching for a granola bar while on my way home.

Ever since I discovered the wonderful world of thick toast, I've made it my personal mission to recreate some of my favourite flavours at home. As seen in my last post, Green Tea thick -er regular - toast was a success. Makeshift pizza-flavoured toast (aka bruschetta w/ melted mozzarella) also proved to be a simple, tasty lunch item on a snowy stay-at-home day.

On my second day back, I decided to meet up with one of the friends I hadn't managed to see over the break. First stop was Bubble Tease, which I had suggested since I had yet to try out the 'Name Your Price Tuesdays' deal.

I've been marathoning 'My Love From Another Star' ( Yes, FINALLY! I know I'm late to jump on the bandwagon, but it truly was great!) these past few days so I haven't gotten around to editing any additional photos of our food/drinks yet. Once they're finished though, I shall link them HERE. (Of course, interested readers can also check the 'What I See: Food' section.)

For the only cafe location in the city, it sure was empty for a weekday afternoon. But we soon realized why that was the case when my friend received her food. She had ordered a slice of Cookies'n'Cream cake and Takoyaki, but pointed out that the cake was much too dry, while the takoyaki lacked toppings and sauce. I had gone with a safe choice: Classic Nachos, and thus had experienced no problems with it. The daily special, Roasted Oolong Milk Tea was also pretty good.

The following visuals require less of a detailed description and thus will be numbered as follows:

1) My friend's magnetic bookmark...with broken Chinese phrases printed on it
2) Christmas ty Beanie Babies at Michaels
3) Colourful origami decoration spotted at an arts booth on campus
4) - 6) Lunch takeout from Bubble Republic consisting of a Stewed Meat on Rice combo with Kiwi Green Tea w/ Basil Seeds and a Taiwanese Minced Meat on Rice combo w/ Aloe Honey Juice

Oh and did I mention that it's been FREEZING COLD lately???!?
Despite wearing insulating gloves, my hands have began becoming extremely dry - so dry to the point that the backs of my hands have started cracking. Needless to say, waiting at the bus stop is even more unbearable; for yesterday's trip back, the bus driver had left students standing outside while he dodged into a nearby building, only emerging two minutes before departure time. My legs had almost gotten frostbitten by that point.

High winds have been making this winter even more brutal. And with these temperatures, Eskimo fashion has recently emerged as a new trend.
