Needless to say, I was more than just a bit tired by the end of the day when my second uncle took us out to sushi in Steveston for dinner.
Since I had slept for most of the duration of the 10-hour flight back to Vancouver, I was pretty much wide awake until 5 AM on the night that we arrived.
Needless to say, I was more than just a bit tired by the end of the day when my second uncle took us out to sushi in Steveston for dinner. This flight was probably the most intense international flights I've ever been on. We left the house early in the morning, had lunch at the Vancouver airport, headed off to Incheon on a 10-/11-hour flight, waited a few hours for our transfer flight (whilst doing some speed shopping), and finally landed in Hong Kong around 4 AM PST / 4 PM HKT. Since the airport is still quite a distance from our hotel, I didn't really get a chance to sleep until 3 AM HKT after settling. Geez, what a day! And so here come the photos! In contrast to Toronto Pearson, the Vancouver airport never fails to amaze with the number of culinary selections available both inside and outside the security check area. Upon my uncle's recommendation, we had lunch at a Japanese/Chinese restaurant called "Hanami", which, by far, scored the lowest in customer service rankings in my books. The (extremely oily) food was slow and the waitresses were extremely rude and unwelcoming; I would definitely choose an alternative next time I travel internationally. <Continuing from PART 1> This time around we flew Business Class and were provided with a rather extensive lunch menu. As we were flying business class, we received complementary salted almonds upon take-off. (I actually fell asleep when the flight attendant came around with them, and just woke up to find them there.
As of now it's no longer Day 2, though I honestly think that I've had enough excitement (read: taken enough photos) to last me a good couple days.
First thing Sunday morning, I headed over to UBC to attend the NorthWest Fan Fest, which was a combination of Vancouver's annual Cos and Effect and Comic Con conventions. Photos from the event can be found HERE. It was smaller than I expected, but then again, nothing can live up to Anime North expectations (haha). Perhaps it was also because I was roaming around the Student Union Building (where the event was being held) rather early (before noon). Even though it was a last-minute decision to attend the convention, I still wanted to cosplay, even if that meant doing an extremely simple "closet cosplay" (as Sachie calls it). So grabbing my burgundy blazer that I used to cosplay Taiga at Anime Revolution last August (that somehow managed to shrink half a size from the depths of my closet) and stealing my dad's tie, I somehow managed to put together a somewhat recognizable Adachi Hana! (Pssttttt "Yankee-kun to Megane-chan", along with "Yamada-kun to Shichi-nin no Majo", happens to be one of my faves by Yoshikawa Miki!) I have returned to Vancouver!!! (To read up on last year's trip(s), click here =)) Instead of taking an early morning flight this time, we opted for one that took place in the evening, hence why I'm typing this at 4:36 AM EST...Yikes. But anyways, the rundown of the day went something like this: - Wake up from a dream involving Jackson and Mark from GOT7 (> ω < !!!) - Finish packing the remaining items for the trip - Head to the airport a bit earlier to walk around and have dinner at Mill St. Brewery Mill St. was essentially a kid-friendly pub-style restaurant serving up freshly toasted sandwiches, chicken wings, nachos, and, of course, beer to go along with the various television monitors around the interior of the restaurant showing the Columbia vs. Uruguay match. < Shown below: Classic Wings, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Chicken Club > After eating, we walked around a few of the shops before heading to the gate for boarding. Some of the new ones included MAC Cosmetics, Victoria's Secret, and Jo Malone fragrances.
