[The Intense Summer] VANCOUVER DAY 15 (Part 2)

7/25/2014

< Continuing from PART 1 >

After getting a set of Minnie Mouse ears (a steal at $3!) and a short-sleeved alligator kigurumi, I was suddenly overcome with an urge for bubble tea. So back to the food stalls we went.

This stall probably ranked first for the drink stall with the largest lineup, but, nonetheless, I'm glad we waited for the amount of time that we did. The wheat germ bubble tea was indeed amazing.
Picture
Can't quite say the same about the BBQ pork buns from the stall next to it though.

We then proceeded to walk through the second aisle of shop stalls, spotting phone case stores, a boy performing yo-yo tricks, and a panda plushie display, eventually ending up in Candyland.

Candyland / Candy Kingdom was a segment of the Night Market I have never seen before, so I can only assume that it was a new addition.
Picture
It featured carnival-type games, but with prizes that were well above carnival-standard. They had giant Yoshi, Hello Kitty, Stitch, and even Sulley!
Picture
The first booth we stopped at involved shooting hoops. While I generally have decent hand-eye coordination, basketball is really not my forte.

The guy at booth promised he would give me the doll with bright blush spots if I got both shots in. I didn't get either shot in, but he was still really nice and gave me a Kamesennin doll for my efforts.

The next booth was darts, which I've happened to be good at since childhood.

I won a pink monkey when I visited Disneyland in first grade, and this time I won a giant Yoshi.
Picture
The next game I attempted involved knocking pins off a stool by throwing a small ball at it. I could've won a huge Stitch plushie, but my throwing angle happened to be a foot off...
Picture
I got quite lucky at the last game I participated in though! Similar tossing a ring onto the rim of a glass bottle, there were various sizes of plastic plates set up in the booth, and the goal of the game was to toss a quarter onto one of those plates and have it stay. Since plastic plates are quite slippery, majority of the coins being thrown simple slided off.
I aimed for a large plate and the very corner of the booth and managed to get it to stay. I had one prize in the bag already.
On my 6th try, the quarter I threw somehow managed to slide inwards diagonally from the outermost plate to the smallest one in the center. The girl told me that that would result in an immediate large prize. And so I left the booth with a large marshmallow stick plushie in one hand, and a giant orange swirl lollipop plushie in the other.
Picture
Quite frankly, all the games looked extremely exciting, but it would have been impossible to attempt all of them due to monetary and spatial (luggage space) constraints.

I settled for (somewhat) quiet observation instead.

Following the touring of the Night Market's carnival game segment, we returned to the food stalls for dessert: Mango Mochi Ice Cream Shaved Ice!
Picture
Picture
Picture
Their most popular item on the menu, I have to admit that this shaved ice was much much better than Cattle Cafe. The perfect harmony between homemade mochi, fresh mango, and icy goodness had the power to render me speechless.

We finally proceeded to walk around one last time to see if we had missed anything.
Apparently there was a stall that had been selling drinks with glowing ice cubes, so I stopped these two little girls for photos of their drinks.
Picture
Picture
Our last stop was a stall that had caught our eyes when we first entered the night market: BrezelTwist

(Recall:)
Picture
We ordered a Bacon and Mozzarella, Honey-Glazed Pumpkin Seed, and Original Sesame and Poppyseed BrezelTwist to go.
Picture
Freshly-baked, the Bacon and Mozzarella one was unbelievably soft and chewy, while the Honey-Glazed Pumpkin Seed combined sweet and salty for the best of both worlds.

This year's International Night Market was the best one I've been to yet and I can't wait till next year when it becomes an even bigger attraction! (And lastly, thank you to my second aunt for taking me! ^ ^)

That looks like the Richmond Night Market, not the International Night Market.

Hi Jess!

Indeed it is! Sorry about the confusion!
I have changed all the corresponding entries to the correct name now - thank you for letting me know =)
