Out & About #553 | Collective May Visuals

This time last year, I felt a lot more accomplished: I had received my Iron Ring and was antsily preparing for Convocation. The same cannot be said this time around, as change is inevitable and we, as mere mortals, must engage in continual development as means of survival.

At such times, I am reminded that one cannot escape hardships, and that to succeed is to persist in a clever manner. Normally, I'd throw a quick reference to my ever-encouraging saviour tune, but let's go for a throwback instead: Keep On, Keeping On.

3) Myeongdong Kalguksu (Mississauga)

When the cravings hit, there is no turning back. Itching for traditional Korean dumplings, I headed to Dundas and Hurontario on a whim. For a solo meal, I shamelessly requested about threefold the amount I could stomach, but had no qualms about judgement as all that remained would be taken home for later consumption.

The steamed MD Dumpling (명동 왕만두) were as plush as I recall; the MD Red Pork Set Meal (제육 정식) was an unexplored section of the menu, ultimately proving far spicier than tolerable. Shredded lettuce, julienned carrots, bean sprouts, and mushrooms surrounded the fiery helping of marinated pork; a bowl of white steamed rice accompanied the platter.
One of the two ahjummas on the floor appeared concerned that I wasn't heeding her suggestion of adding rice into the shallow dish and then mixing with gochujang sauce. Dabbing at watery eyes and madly rubbing away sniffles, I meekly replied in protest, for it was obvious that I could not withstand such strength.

6) Thai Milk Tea returns to Chatime! - not that I would be purchasing a cup for myself. My Thai ahgase, on the other hand, did.
7) McDonald's new Fish & Chips is a definite no-go: stale, stiff sections devoid of flakiness were not our cup(s) of tea.

8) BamBingsu at Snowies
Picture
Snowies' limited edition Thai Milk Tea Bingsu - appropriately named after our beloved Prince of Thailand - succeeded to redeeming our depressing dinner. At $12.95, it was undeniably pricey, though still on par with their Regular-sized fixed selections. That said, it was a gargantuan portion consisting of its own quadruplet of toppings: tapioca pearls, sweetened condensed milk, grass jelly, and coconut mochi. The latter two were made in-house, as we were informed.

The tinted milk ice was scrumptious on its own, then further elevated with a shot of sweetness. A separate condensed milk pitcher was provided such that customers could adjust their preferred degree of slickness.

The Thai ahgase didn't quite pull her weight with this post-supper snack, so major efforts were demanded on my part to demolish the mountain before its dreaded dissolution. Sickening satiating effects aside, I must profess that I enjoyed the coconut mochi topping tremendously.

9) Revisiting Hub on a 2-for-1 Day Pass special, I was both distressed and delighted at discovering several route resets on the large wall. Having nixed the sport from my life for the past two weeks, I was viciously reminded of the associated pains for the next three days.

10) This long-time favourite returns following the birth of a successful batch of strawberry jam.
11) Attempting "meal prep", then ultimately resorting to a Vanilla Cone for appeasement of the mind.

12) Equal parts intuitive and unthinkable, Connect 4 Hoops was a swell addition to Playdium's ever-evolving roster of entertainment equipment.

13) Wonton Chai

Dreary days filled with dampness call for hardy bowls of wonton noodles.

During this visit, I was informed that Fried Fish Skin would be temporarily unavailable until further notice, resulting in a disheartened disposition for the duration of our stay.

14) Ninety-nine cent Frosty(ies) from Wendy's means another competitor for economic post-dinner munchies.

15) I'd never thought I'd live to witness an itch to climb; the world takes its path in odd, unexpected ways.

Back to Hub I went - with my favourite fangirl - to scratch that itch, broadening my callus coverage and earning some sore fingertips along the way. Succeeding this three-hour endeavour was a McDonald's run - because what else is new?
Stay tuned for the next post! To be discussed are the instances where faith and determination manage to be restored in almost every plausible situation, specifically through seven angelic beings that I cannot ever seem to tire of.
