Out & About #49 | Transitway Open House + More Bubble Republic (?!)

Introducing the four new transitway stations to the general public (of commuters), miway / City of Mississauga held an open house today to reveal the results of Phase 1 of the Mississauga Transitway project.

Transitway Tour buses departed from the City Centre Terminal at Square one approximately every half an hour between 10 AM and 3 PM. The bus would then makes stops at the newly-completed Central Parkway, Cawthra, Tomken, and Dixie stations.

The Central Parkway station was one of the larger ones, with a small parking lot on the lower level. A variety of information booths were also set up inside today especially for the open house. Cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, and several types of tea were also made available to the attendees.

The second stop was the Cawthra station.

Unlike the Central Parkway station, Cawthra was rather empty. Similar to minor GO Bus stops, there was an open shelter with easy access to a parking lot. And instead of an elevator for accessibility, there was a long ramp instead. My concern regarding this, though, was how one would utilize the ramp when we receive copious amounts of snow. It's built slightly below ground level and would collect snow rather easily.

We then boarded another Transitway tour bus to the Tomken station.
Relatively the same size as the Central Parkway station, Tomken was enclosed and equipped with an elevator instead of a ramp. Drinks and cookies were also offered here.

The last station on the tour was Dixie.

With the station containing the greatest number of booths, and also the final station of the trip, the Dixie terminal was extremely packed.
Consisting of two levels though, it provided quite a nice view from the upper floor. It also connected directly to Dixie Road.

After a quick look at the booths set up and another round of photos, we hopped on the Transitway bus heading westbound back towards City Centre Terminal. Before boarding the bus, though, a crew had decided to film some of the citizens boarding the bus. It was especially amusing to see the camerawoman break into a slight jog to get ahead of the bus for some more footage.
Citizens were forbidden to cross the street between the eastbound and westbound platforms, so the bus allowed a few minutes for passengers to get off before continuing onto City Centre.
The weather was surprisingly nice today, given the past few days were nothing but dreary and snowy. But as majority of the tour had involved being outdoors, my hands had almost gone numb due to the frigid temperature, despite wearing thick gloves.

Bubble Republic seemed like a good place to warm up, so it was decided that lunch would be had there following the tour.

We also ordered a Black Diamond Crushed Ice to finish.

It was sweeter than the Black Milk Tea Crushed Ice, and not quite as good as the Red Bean one. But I can honestly say that each crushed ice utilizes a different base flavour, making the flavours interesting and distinct in their own ways. Next on my list? Definitely the Green Bean or Strawberry flavours! =)

Hey there! I was wondering, where can I get the paper bus shown in the photo?

I am a transit fan/collector and I collect many MiWay related things, but I do not have the paper bus shown there sadly. If you can help, that'll be great!
