Out & About #327 | Mid-April Visuals

4/15/2017

To have one's final examinations scheduled within the first week of the testing period is both a blessing and a nightmare. Three exams in two days? - no biggie right.

By the time someone reads this, I'll probably be furiously flipping through pages of the CDH while metaphorically clasping my hands in solemn prayer that reinforced concrete will have mercy on my poor, non-structurally-adept brain.

For the first time since entering this program, this term marks the very first opportunity to conclude the academic year before the third- (or second-) last day of the month. It also inadvertently means taking the necessary measures to curb procrastination (pfft) and adopting the unsocial lifestyle of a house hermit, which may or may not have cause sharp weight gain in the process.

As a resulting consequence of being locked indoors, figuratively speaking anyway, I've accumulated quite a few pinhole camera-quality visuals. Here are some mid-month images to summarize my sedentary cramming sessions:

1) GOT7 - FLIGHT LOG: ARRIVAL

Hi 왕개박개!

Behold the beauty of the Never and Ever versions, plus the pre-order Log Books.

2) CoCo's April special of Three Guys and Bubble Gaga is likely the monthly deal warranting the greatest value yet! Extremely generous topping portions are an added bonus.

3) Yellow-hued staple snack groups (aka orangecane's favourites)
4) Yuzu-Sour Plum slushies have been my go-tos as of late
5) Attempts at latte art
6) Uncle Tetsu's delectableTriple Baked Cheese Tarts courtesy of my favourite fangirl

7) I can finally claim victory in conquering the Tapas menu at MeNami!

8) Unwrapping too cool for school's Highline eye liner, just to find it defective and in need of return

9) Hot Cross Buns and a hearty Ancient Grains loaf from COBS Bread
10) Gold foil bunnies are totally my thing, especially if it's adorably cuddling a dark chocolate egg.

11) Taco Del Mar
After a depressing evening of Light Up The Night - complete with a heavy downpour, stale churros, and tiny Pogo sticks - we set out to fill our stomachs with Taco Del Mar's Thursday special: the Taco Salad.

The environment boasted dingy, yellow lighting, an atmosphere that was, frankly, a bit too warm, grease-filled air, and peculiar customer service that was neither indifferent nor attentive. A franchise operating in a self-service atmosphere equated to sticky tables with remnants of the previous diners' meals as well as an overflowing garbage bin.

We had been recommended to the establishment to try out Taco Salad Thursday, but were ultimately left gnawing away at a sauce-laden allotment of pre-seasoned rice (MSG alert!), a few sad shreds of lettuce, impossibly firm "basa" strips, and a soggy tortilla casing served up in a styrofoam box.
Napkins were scarce, utensils were flimsy, and plastic containers of runny sour cream were found to implode upon opening due to pressure.

It's safe to say that it wasn't the most ideal meal for $6.50 plus tax. We later headed over to Yogurty's to fill that void.

12) Breakfast consisting of a frothy latte + Peanut Butter-Banana Whole Grain Toast

13) Takeout Unagi Donburi and (ahem FROZEN) Fried Gyoza from Akasaka
Albeit the substantial amount of eel, the omission of pickled ginger, half-container of miso soup, disgusting pre-packaged T&T dumplings, and oil-drenched salad were definitely not to my standards.

14) Thai Iced Tea from the Basil Box (Has service hit a new low during off-peak hours?)
15) More CoCo + latte art attempts

16) Post-night exam view of campus grounds
17) A sneak peek of an upcoming segment on a newly-discovered spring/summer beverage

18) The urge to craft a Levelled-Up Grilled Cheese (thanks SORTED for the amazing ideas!) coincidentally lined up with National Grilled Cheese Day.

Here's my Maple Butter-Parsley Grilled Cheese Feat. Dijon mustard + honey!

19) My long overdue success at creating fluffy matcha pancakes can now be found under "What I Make"!" (honeykki, you are my saviour.)

Stay tuned for a slew of spring adventures coming to this space!
