Up until now, I've opted for takeout due to lack of time. But the time has finally come to dine in and see what they can do.
We arrived just a bit after 7 pm; we were met with an inexplicably full parking lot (this is what happens when Kenzo, Chatime, and Sugar Marmalade need to share) in addition to a short, five-minute wait for a table.
The girl, who despite frantically having to pace between serving already-seated customers and tending to the growing lineup at the front of the store, was pleasant beyond reason. She disappeared not long after we were seated though, which was probably due to her shift coming to an end.
Not wanting to fill ourselves up too much in preparation for dessert, we ordered a Golden Royal Drink to share before the meals arrived.
Still scarred from my experience with the Teriyaki French Fries consumed at the North York location, I was less than tempted to try their second fries dish.
But let's move onto the better things - aka dessert! We had initially wanted to order the Green Tea and Mango Taiwanese Shaved Ice(s), but were informed by the waitress that they were sold out of both for the day. She mentioned that the Strawberry and Chocolate flavours were still available, which prompted me to inquire about the creation of these desserts and whether real fruit was used. Though she was able to tell me that the Strawberry Shaved Ice did include real strawberries placed on top, she was hesitant to confirm whether the ice itself was created using real strawberry pulp, or simply strawberry syrup.
Kind enough to check despite the place being completely chaotic, she later emerged with the answer: it was indeed syrup. The Chocolate Shaved Ice was, presumably, concocted from syrup as well. (I mean, which Asian diner would take the time to buy raw chocolate bars to grind up in a shaved ice dessert that retails for $5.49?)
Having been craving something green tea-flavoured, I felt rather defeated. My friend proceeded to order the Mango Roll Supreme, while I finally settled for the Mixed Fruits w/ Sago Mixed Pearl Delight after spending much time with the menu.
My order of Mixed Fruits w/ Sago Mixed Pearl Delight was better than I had anticipated. Seasonal fruit such as honeydew, watermelon, and cantaloupe were gently submerged in a chilled bowl of delectable coconut milk, accompanied by a generous portion of chewy mochi balls and sweet, ripe mango. The dessert was then further topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with mango syrup and chocolate sauce. Talk about yum!
Unfortunately, I was unable to finish the entire dessert due to being overly full from previous eatings, but it was amazing nonetheless!
Service was surprisingly good, especially compared to the expressionless servers of the North York location. In addition, the food quality is seemingly higher as well.
Looks like I'll be returning to try some more of their desserts!
