Out & About #106 | Union Burger

A number of new retailers and dining places have opened up in the Square One vicinity, and I happened to pass by one by the name of union burger. "ub hungry?" is their slogan, and quite accurately so. I was hungry, which is why I stopped to order takeout.

The interior was painted with a medium red hue with blue undertones; booths and tables were nicely spaced out - there was even a bar spot complete with "ub" engraved into the backs of the stools.

There was also a set of condiments laid out at the cashier, right next to a straw dispenser, ketchup container, and empty containers and lids. Interestingly enough, there were no napkins in sight. (Are they really that scarce these days?!)

I ordered a Chicken Club Burger and Veggie Burger, along with a Nutella Milkshake, which was more of a McFlurry-milkshake hybrid than a thick, smooth milkshake. It contained less Nutella than the one ordered from Cafe Crepe, and was made by layering milk, a small scoop of Nutella, and a few squirts of soft serve ice cream, and placing it under a mixing machine to finish the concoction.

Both burgers were great, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Veggie Burger.Recalling that the first veggie burger I ever tried was a strange-tasting mess from Harvey's, I'm thankful that burger shops have improved their patties to satisfy those preferring to eat meat-less, while still longing to enjoy the texture of meat.

Surprisingly, union burger does not have any locations in Toronto, but franchises can be found dispersed in many of Ontario's smaller cities such as St. Thomas and London. According to their website, they also have two locations in Florida.
